On leaving the army he finds himself a job driving buses in Botley. Whilst driving the buses he hears about better paid jobs in the Brickworks in Bletchley. So he gives up driving buses and travels to Bletchley, where he is given a job drawing the bricks from the chambers of the kilns.

He is given accommodation in the Brickyard Hostel in the village of Drayton Parslow, before moving into lodgings in Newton Longville and finally moves to lodgings in Bletchley.

It was during the time he was lodging in Newton Longville that he met his future bride Beryl Cox at a dance in the village. A courtship followed and they were married at Saint Faiths Church, Newton Longville on 27 November 1948.

They were blessed with four children, two boys and two girls; Ivor, Jackie, Maria and Stefan.
